What a Monday…started out hectic continued to stay crazy at work and slowed down a little bit at home…class starts tomorrow…no summer break for me…just

Days 19 & 20 – The third weekend…

I can’t believe that I’ve done three weeks already!  It started off slow, but has just flown by since!  This week is “recovery week” so there won’t be any intense workouts – I’m kind of bummed and I think I’ll probably do Kenpo, Plyo and cardio a few times.

Abbey and Isaac woke up with me so while Abbey fed Isaac I made us scrambled eggs with tomatoes and seasonings.  I added some turkey bacon and a glass of milk to my breakfast then ate an apple on the way to work.  For lunch I avoided the George Foreman and went to a Mexican restaurant to celebrate a co-worker’s birthday.  At first I couldn’t think of anything that I’d be able to eat there, but once I looked at the menu I knew I could make something work.  I decided on chicken fajitas minus the tortillas and rice…extra beans.  Nothing goes better with mexican food than an ice cold Coke or Pepsi – but I ordered water :-(   One of the great things about eating at a mexican restaurant is eating hte chips and salsa – but I ate none :-(   I must say I was pretty damn proud of myself!  If that wasn’t enough temptation for the day about a half hour after I got back to the office we gathered to celebrate the January birthdays…with one of my favorite cakes – 1,000 chocolate chip cake from Kroger.  I watched everyone eat while I just remembered how good it used to taste!

Before I continue…I just saw a Coors Light commercial…did they used to serve cans of beer at football games or other sporting events?  Just wondering.

So for dinner we had some (get this) Chicken (i know it’s crazy!) cooked with artichoke hearts, tomatoes, and spaghetti sauce.  It was pretty good and very easy to make.  Our veggie was asparagus.  Abbey and I were both excited for KenpoX then I realized that the exercise was actually supposed to be legs and back and sadness ensued – we did Kenpo anyway.  We are pros now and if anyone tries to mess with us on the street will pull out a can o’ whoop ass on ‘em!  JAB, CROSS, HOOK, UPPERCUT, BALL KICK – KNOCKED OUT!

Isaac decided that he didn’t really want to sleep all that much on Friday night.  It was my turn to get him at 2:40am and that was when he decided he wanted to make some stock trades on e-Trade…he was wide awake and it took me an hour to get him back to sleep…I was tired!  I started the day with 4 veggie sausage patties and an english muffin.  I have two problems with being home all day and on a diet..
1.  I don’t drink nearly as much water as I do at home (at work I drink anywhere from 128oz to 160oz…at home I’m lucky to put away 64oz)
2.  There is too much food that I have constant access to

I made it through the day without eating any excess calories so I guess it’s really not that big of a deal, I just find myself getting hungrier more often because I’m not drinking as much water.  Lunch was a protein shake because I wasn’t really in the moood for anything.  For dinner Abbey made turkey sausage in cream of celery soup and again it was pretty good and very easy to make.  For our workout we were going to do legs and back, but because we had no bands we decided that wasn’t going to work.  I looked through some of the other exercises and found that we could do InveralX+…it seemed like it was just cardio and would be a pretty good workout.  They should call it InsanityX or YeahF’ingrightX – it was a 45 minute workout…we warmed up for 5 minutes then it began.  We got about 10 minutes in and we were both wondering where the damn water break was…finally at the 20 minute mark they gave us a 1 minute break THEN for the next 20 minutes we did the whole thing again but in reverse.  Well, Tony and his crew did…Abbey and I were BEAT!  I did the first excercise and said ”F this…what the F?!”  It was CRAZY!  Now I know what the “+” sign means when they put it after the title…”unless you are F’ing crazy don’t attempt these!”

I can’t believe I’m entering my last week of the first 30 days of my P90Xperience!  Last year when I thought about actually doing P90X I didn’t think there was anyway that I would actually do it…and I never did.  Now I’m eating so much healthier, actually enjoying (some) of the workouts and still motivated to see what 90 days has in store!

Movie review time…

Abbey and I watched It’s Complicated last night.  It stars Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.  It’s a comedy about a bizarre love triangle and although it may be pegged as a “chick flick” it’s pretty damn funny!  Abbey was cracking up throughout the whole movie and I found myself laughing a lot as well!  “Have you ever Poked Smot?!?”

Until my next post…P90Xtend

Day 12 – New Partner

Another Friday in the books and I’d say it has still been a resounding success!  It’s amazing how different you can feel from week to week.  I was super sore and walking like Herbert the Pervert after some of the exercises last week; this week, never really felt anything horrible.  My legs were a little shaky after legs and back and plyo, but only for a short time immediately after.

UPDATE – When I got home from class on Thursday I was standing in the living room and Abbey looked me and said “your face looks thinner..do you feel thinner?”  I responded with, “No, I don’t really see any difference in my size, but I can see some of the muscle definition beginning and I have dropped 5 pounds.”  So this is what’s weird…all last year I was between 242 and 245…the day I weigh myself (before starting my P90Xperience) I weighed 241.  So after spending a week at 239 I finally saw a significant drop to 236.  I’m not totally worried about the numbers but it is nice to see!

We now resume your regularly scheduled post…

Since Abbey told me I was tired the night before and I went to bed when she did, I woke up pretty refreshed.  Plus, since I had to work and she didn’t, she got up with Isaac more!  (BONUS!!)  I started the morning with scrambled egg whites and turkey bacon – which is a pretty good breakfast.  It’s nice not having cereal or a bagel everyday, but somedays I definitely would like a nice bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch – well the Kroger version since it’s way cheaper and tastes exactly the same.  While on the subject of off-brands…have you ever actually tested store brands over the standard brands?  I don’t know how it is at other grocery stores, but Kroger products are pretty damn good and close to their product rivals.  Anywho….

I had my last S’mores Protein bar :-( but went to Sam’s and now have some new Powerbars that are a little bigger with more protein.  In the morning I cooked up some porkchops and took two of them for lunch with romaine lettuce…the salad was awesome and the chops were phenomenal!  Who decided to name a cartoon dog Porkchops anyway?

“Hey Doug, what did you guys have for dinner last night?”
“Porkchops”
“Oh, you had chinese?”

For dinner, Abbey wanted Thai…I didn’t really think there was anything that I could eat there so I nixxed that idea.  I checked on their website and found that I could actually eat the Spicy Beef Salad so I placed an order on my way home from work – only to cancel it 7 minutes later because she had already started making chicken for dinner.  It was really good too!  Chicken, mixed veggies and I had some Kroger8 to round out my veggie servings for the day.  We put Isaac to bed around 8pm and Abbey decided she wanted to join in my P90Xperience so we did legs and back together.  For someone with a lot of knee surgeries that was a tough one to start with and she did GREAT!  I even used 4lb weights cuz she was in there…yeah, how about that!  Tony D-Bag was using 25′s and I was using 4′s.  About halfway through Abbey said “almost done?”  I pointed at the screen and said “27 minutes left.”  Her jaw dropped, but not for too long since it was time for Toe Roll Iso Lunges!  Tony told us to say it 5 times fast…Abbey did – she is really good at tongue twisters!

She convinced me to do Ab Ripper X after legs and back and I made it through the whole thing!  I didn’t necessarily do every exercise and those that I did do weren’t the prettiest, but the point is that I made it!  It’s only about 15 minutes and really isnt’ that hard once you get past the impossibility of it all…lol.  Abbey was really good at working her abs though!  It could be the fact that she has a 0 belly and I’m working with an 8…:-)

So we finished the workouts and decided to finish watching Jersey Shore.  I hope that when I’m big and buff that I can knock someone out with one punch!  “On hit, bro!  On hit!” – then I can brag about it while I prance down the street.  “The situation” decided to play some practical jokes on his roommates – one involving pickles and I started to think…”I wonder if I can eat pickles…I don’t see why not, sodium is pretty much the only thing on the nutrition label and they are really just glorified cucumbers, right?!  I went and made like Snooki and started pounding some pickle slices…yum yum!

If there is one thing I’m hoping for from my P90Xperience, it’s that my waist gets small enough to have my pants on the ground….

Day 11 – First day of school…

I woke up with Abbey this morning at 5:20am and while she took a shower I went downstairs and started my Shoulders & arms workout.  The workout was really good, but I couldn’t do the bonus round of workouts because I snapped my second, of three, resistance bands :-(   I need to figure something out quickly for my next workout because all I have left is the green, strongest, band and until I get a little deeper into the P90Xperience there is no way I can do EVERYTHING with the green.  After getting ready I made some more eggs and spiced them up with low sodium soy sauce, paprika and white pepper.  I added some fat free shredded cheddar and had a glass of milk.  It was a dandy breakfast if I must say so myself!

For lumch I had romaine lettuce with 4 slices of chopped up turkey bacon and fat free ranch.  It was a good salad and filled my hunger need!  I went to the store a little later to get some bottled water for Isaac and ended up getting a new flavor of Protein bar.  Chewy chocolate chip…it’s good, but not as good as the smores yum yum!  I had to try one once I got in my car and because my lunch wasn’t HUGE!  I had some pistachios then made 1.5 protein shakes for dinner.  I got home from work and 10 minutes later left to go to school.  I started my MBA and had a 6:15-9pm class.  It’s only once a week so it’s not horrible.

I got home and really wanted to work out, but it was Yoga and I just had no motivation to do Yoga.  Here is my problem…it’s boring.  I don’t really know the moves so I have to constantly look at the monitor and some of the positions they put you in make it really hard to move your head to see.  My final complaint…I have hardwood floors and no yoga mat…it starts to hurt after awhile.  I wonder if Milton and Bradley were yoga masters and that’s how they came up with Twister…that or they were two horny college guys that wanted a reason to be in close quarters with girls.  I was going to force myself to do it until Abbey said “Jersey Shore is on at 10.”  Can anyone out there really deny themselves a new episode of Jersey Trash…I mean Shore?!  We went upstairs and watched it in bed then she turned it off 30 minutes later “you’re tired now…we can watch it tomorrow.”  I didn’t know I was tired, but I didn’t want to sit there in darkness so I just closed my eyes and off to dreamland I went.  I did have a thought before I went to bed, “FAIL!”  I decided to make Day 11 my rest day and not rest on Sunday.  I need to decide what I want to do next week, but it’s either going to be yoga or cadioX.

I want to tell you all about where I pulled some motivation for this whole thing.  Last year I found out about Chris Boggs challenge to lose weight and compete in a tri-athalon.  Boggs is an alumni of NKU and was a good friend of Julie’s, my sister.  He was a big guy but that was just who Boggs was.  Part of his persona, if you will.  My first keg stand was at his house in Newport – way back before the Levee existed.  Chris lost a ton of weight and continues to work and stay in shape to run marathons and athalons.  You can check out his blog here: http://tri-ingfatman.blogspot.com/.  If you need motivation - go there.  I am glad to know that I have started some people on their own P90Xperience.

This was a boring post…sorry…

Until tomorrow…P90Xert

Day 10 – Oh yeah….

My first double digit day…can you believe it?!  It’s going a lot quicker than I thought it would, but I think once you get over the fact that you just can’t eat the same shit you’ve been eating it gets a lot easier.  I’m over my sweet tooth…don’t get me wrong I look at chocolate and want a piece..and as I go if I want a little something I’ll eat it.  I had a dream that Abbey and I were in an elevator somewhere and someone had a tray of brownies, not even thinking about it I grabbed one and shoved the whole thing in my mouth.  Abbey looked at the tray, then at me, I looked at the tray, then where my brownie sat another brownie toppled over as to say “Fatty ate my support system!”  I said “I didn’t even think about it, it was just second nature!”  Then I woke up…whew…it was only a dream!

I started the day with scrambled eggs with feta cheese, had my delicious smores bar at 1030 and left work around noon to go home and meet the glass block window installers.  We finally, after 3 years of saying we’d do it, got glass block windows in our basement and it’s amazing the light we have down there without using electricity.  The windows we had down there were so old we’ve had them covered with insulation for the past 2 years!  It’s like a whole new world, with new fantastic point of views, no one to tell you no, or where to go, or say you’re only dreaming…(do you think I have to pay Disney to use that in my blog?)  For lunch I made myself another protein shake cuz I was being really really lazy!  I was on my own for dinner since Abbey was going to the Boathouse with some co-workers so I had two small sandwiches one ham, one turkey, both on english muffins.  I sprinkled some shredded cheese on each…quite good and way healthier than my old sandwiches!  Oh yeah, I tried carrots and hummus…definitely not as bad as fergie’s armpit hair.  Actually, it’s quite tasty and I will continue eating that snack often :-)

I chose to not workout and save it for Thursday morning because I just wanted to chill and hang out with Abbey.  It’s amazing though because still no pain from pylometrics the night before…however I did get this facebook post from my sister, Julie, who started her own P90Xperience this week…

Okay so i have to share some of my personal thoughts on PlyometricsX…
1. Don’t attempt the jumping after having a baby unless you are prepared to piss your pants slowly throughout!
2. I wish I was the guy with the fake leg because at least he will only have ONE sore leg tomorrow!
3. The way the tool bag leader smacks… his stool while stretching at the end gives me visuals of him smacking his boyfriends ass!
4. I also now know why Kelly Walsh wore three sports bras for basketball games in high school.. Ouch!
Other than that I got a killer workout and will do it again

Thanks, Julie!  Did you take before photos?

Until tomorrow….P90Xcess
